The earliest reference to this monument is found in the Will of king Ramiro II of Asturias, dated 951. Retains traces of the primitive Asturian art in the form of geometric elements – quatrefoils and circles – which emphasize the mysticism of the times. The monastic space was rebuilt in the 11th century; in the 13th century, was transferred from the Order of Saint Benedict to the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine.
