In this depiction of the Holy Family, one can see the Child Jesus lying on the cross and holding the nails of the Passion. This painting was probably commissioned by the chapter of the Colegiada de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira from the proto-Baroque painter from Lisbon, André Reinoso.
In this canvas, as Vítor Serrão suggests, Reinoso follows the proto-Baroque models of the Andalusian and Castilian Siglo d’Oro, mainly in the figure of the Child Jesus lying on the cross and holding the nails of the Passion.
As to the model used in the figures of the Virgin and Saint Joseph, finely drawn and delineated in luminous chromatic effects, Reinoso repeats the forms he had already used in other works.
