This candlestick, with a handle and a snuffer, in the Baroque taste, is a 19th century revivalism. The candlestick has a cylindrical opening that rests on a circular plate decorated with acanthus leaves on the edge. The handle is decorated with foliage and the snuffer, a scissor with a box for the wicks, fits onto the handle and has no decoration.
The silver lamps, which worked on olive oil or wax, were indispensable to the nocturnal activity in a time when electric lighting still didn’t exist.
