The objective of this room is to highlight the variety and the importance of the woodcarving present in religious buildings in the north of Portugal. Three 17th-century altarpieces are exhibited here:
– the altarpiece of Saint Roch that belonged to the chapel bearing the same name, in the parish of Costa in Guimarães. This altarpiece has an image of Saint Roch, coming from the same chapel;
– the altarpiece of Saint Peter, of mannerist flavour, which belonged to the Irmandade de S. Pedro, headquartered in the Capela de S. João Baptista, in the Chapter Room of the Collegiate Church of Guimarães;
– the altarpiece that belonged to the Capela de S. Jorge, part of the old Palacete of the Navarros de Andrade;
Let’s also mention the recumbent statue representing Our Lady of the Good Death from the same period.
